What is this part?
Can anyone tell me what this part is? Can't figure out how to post a picture? It is the triangular piece with the round part on top with three bolts under the round piece. It is in the right side of the engine just behind the valve cover. It is leaking oil. It is on a 4 cylinder 1996 Accord.
If your accord is an EX, then that is the vtec solenoid. There are two gaskets that can be leaking. An oring under the triangular plate, or the gasket that seals to the cylinder head. It is the easier of the two to replace. To remove from the cylinder head, I highly recommend removing the thermostat housing. You will be tempted to use a 10mm boxed wrench on the lower bolt, and you run the risk of stripping that bolt. Guess how I know?
Sound like the vtec solenoid. There are two sets of o-rings you can replace to reseal it and you should be good to go. From the dealer, my memory tells me they are about $20 in total.
EDIT: I see PA posted as I was typing

#10 and #12 are the o-rings/gaskets you need for the solenoid.
Online they are like $9 and $3, shipping might kill you. Local dealer will be about twice that price. I think I've seen these in the aftermarket but can't remember where (Dorman Products ?).
#10 is 15825-P0A-015
#12 is 36172-P0A-005
