Default What's the Best Way to clean bottom of engine?

My 96 accord 130,000 miles is leaking oil apparently from the bottom gasket what would be the safetest and most effective method to clean and wash the gunk that has accumulated on the bottom of the engine? Also what would be the cost to replace the worn gasket? Thank you.

Easiest method would be to spray the bottom of the egine with degreaser and blast it with a presure washer. Most effective would be steam cleaning. Either way is safe, just keep the water and cleaner out of the electronics. Another way is putting the car on ramps and hand wiping everything down. Takes longer, is messier, and not as effecive but it'll get rid of a lot of the crud.

SimpleGreen or similar kinds of degreaser stuff. There's also petroleum-based stuff like GUNK engine degreaser for really bad nasty caked-on crud. Then use a real stiff brush. Then a hose, even better if you can get HOT water in the hose. It's a nasty job.

Brake parts cleaner and paper towels work. Try tightening your oil pan nuts/bolts first, that will probably eliminate most of the leaks.
