Check the belt tensioner. There's some markings on the tensioner to indicate the belt stretched to its limit where you need a new belt.
Another way is carefully spray some water on the belt & try the steering. If that makes it quiet, you know it's the belt rather than something more complicated. Sometimes old belts get hard & slippery even if they aren't stretched too far.
One possibility is leaking O-rings at the hose connections at the pump. They let a bit of air into the pump.
Search around the General Tech. forum because someone has posted a tech. bulletin (maybe PAHonda?)
