Default WIERD noise coming from the Distributor and setting TIMING???

1993 Accord SE. Intermittent noise coming from the distributor. Almost a squeeking noise and then almost like a rattle. Fairly loud... Pulled the cap off didn't see much. Is there a bearing going out or something?

Thanks.

Honda manual (90 Accord) I havedoesn't show any details of distributor internals. I seem to remember a bearing or bushing, but suggest you pull the distributor, open, and inspect.

good luck

Smoked a bearing.[:@] I can't believe the ears didn't break off inside the engine it was so hard to turn. Anyone know a good place to buy one besides the Bay? All the local joints want $200 + with exchange.

Thanks.

I'm with TexasHonda on this one...seems to be the best and smartest thing to do to see the Noise Cause...

There's a retainer on the bottom that releases the camshaft key. I seem to remember having to remove some screws in the topsides to access the interior. Once there, you may be able to find and replace the bearing. Try car-part.com to search for local ormail-order parts.

good luck

It just slips off. It probably got hot from the bearing going out and is melted to the shaft.

Hey, your mph of 137 should be low tens maybe even touching the nines shouldn't it? My Olds runs128's in the 1/4 at 10.40's. What are your 60 ft times? Maybe front dirve cars are a whole notheranimal. That mph at the 1320 is darn impressive.

There is a red mark on the harmonic balancer that is aligned w/ a pointer on the timing belt cover during timing setting. You will need a timing light to illuminate. Timing should be set w/ engine running and the service check connnector shorted to disable timing compensation by ECU. Loosen and position distributor to adjust timing, and tighten distributor. Timing spec is 15 +/- 2 degrees BTDC. Red mark is 15 degrees BTDC.

good luck

Yo texas My man the red mark in the crank pulley started with the 94 year ,, the timing mark is in the flywheel ( 5sp ) torque conver ( AT) .. there is a rubber plug just below the top rad hose between the tranny and engine, remove it ,and that's where you set your timing
also no need to short the connector i have tried it both ways and it makes no difference ,, idle speed should be around 700-750, engine properly warm, fans come on, set timing as Texas adviced , car in park or neutral
