Question Wierd rattling noise when I shift into 2nd gear

Hi guys, got a noise im trying to figure out whats causing it. I have a 94 lx coupe 5 speed. It only does it in 2nd gear, it doesnt do it every time which is making it hard to diagnose. Has anyone here with the same model as I have ever have this problem?

Check exhaust heatshields or just the exhaust flexing & touching the floorpan. It might be this, & it's easy to check to rule out.

but would exhaust heat shield make that rattling kind of noise ONLY in second gear? BTW it just so happens that I had taken it to a muffler shop out here and they put it up on a lift banged on the muffler, and did say it sounds like the mesh that was inside the muffler rusted into little pieces. But why would you only hear it in second?

Sorry, one more thing... can you provide basic instructions on how I can check it to rule it out? Thanks!

Yeah, it's a bit of a long shot but easy to rule out. Just reach underneath & try to push the exhaust pipe upwards to see if it moves much, & whether it can push up far enough to hit something.

And rap on the heatshields with your knuckles to see if you can duplicate the rattle.

----------------
I had something similar with a 95 Integra, it turned out to be the "A-pipe" which is between the manifold & the cat. In that car (maybe in yours too) the A-pipe was a pipe-inside-a-pipe and the inner pipe would buzz against the outer pipe when the system flexed just the right way.

For awhile it would only do that in 2nd gear. As it got worse it began doing it in other gears.
