Default It won't shift

Just bought a 97 2.2 DX accord from California with a blown motor. It has 188,000 miles on it. Not a spot of rust!!!

I bought a motor for it with 88,000 on it and just got it in yesterday. First motor I have ever changed out. First time we tried to start it, it fired up!

But now it won't shift into the higher gears. I took it out for a run and it drove and sounded fine but wouldn't go faster than 30mph with the rpms running high. Tried every gear and it would not shift. It is an automatic tranny.

Here's what I checked:
  1. Fluid - up to normal opperating level
  2. linkage - looks to be connected correctly
  3. cable going to tranny to injector mainfold - hooked up and seems to be working
  4. plug on top of tranny - seems to be plugged in

Anything else I'm missing?

Check for codes.

Do you know if it was working before.
