Question Is it worth it?

So, I have a 1992 accord lx that has been in my family for about 5 years. I've had the car myself for about a year and a half, which I love deeply, and I need to make a decision. First off, this car has had over $4,000 put into it just to keep it running with about 198,000 miles. I've had the head replaced, main relay, starter, transmission computer, the muffler (the aftermarket bought with it was illeagal), the transmission (which was a junkyard transmission), new intake (yet again aftermarket), the whole front end of the car was replaced from an accident, and much more I can't remember. But heres the thing, now the transmission needs to be replaced again, and I dont want to get another junkyard transmission. I myself don't know where to actually get a transmission or install it, but I do have a mechanic that most likely knows where to get one and install it for around $800 or so. Also, I've had a shop do a diagnosis on the transmission and they would replace it with a newer imported japanese transmission for $1700 (japanese computers included).

My main question is though, should I go through the trouble of getting my car fixed and hope there isn't another problem or should i just junk it and find a new car that might have more problems? I don't have the time or money to deal with at the moment.

Getting a new car sounds like a better idea... or get the transmission you currently have rebuilt. The "japanese transmission" line is a joke, you can't guarantee one transmission will last longer than the other and your current one is likely Japanese as well. There are only a handful of them that will fit your engine, only with changes to gearing and such, nothing to guarantee a longer life than another.

if the car is in very good shape other than the tranny i would say fix it,,,,,,,,you have already sunk more money into it than car is worth,,, even now $1000.00 dollars is about what car would sell on kelly blue book .........On the same token ,,if you try to get another car , you would have to spend a lot more than $ 1000.00 to get a good reliable car ,, and you really cannot sell your car the way it is and get much money for it ..

Forget about getting this japanese tranny and computer ,, search on the net for rebuilt trannies , a shop usually charges 5-6 hrs to replace tranny , so depending on their hourly rate that would be the labor you would pay,, I would replace the rear main seal while apart $ 15-20 ,, tranny fluid dexron III 20-25 dollars ...
But again what is the car worth ???
