is a cold air intake really worth the money and trouble?
a cold air intake costs $220 with a $50 bypass valve(for my car), with the hassle of having to get thermal wrap if you are worried about
horsepower loss and then getting your car hydrolocked unless you have the bypassvalve. then you also gotta pay about 170 more bucks for a cold air intake when a short ram costs about 100(for my car), and the cold air intake delevers like a FEW more horsepower, which is sort of lost with the bypass valve and also lost if you dont get the thermal wrap
so im wondering, do you CAI owners really think its worth the time and money?
btw, are cold air intakes louder than short ram?

I only have a short ram but look at it this way. How much do you plan to mod your car? If you arent going turbo, but are going to beef up the stock engine, you probably would want the cai instead of having an sri and then buying the cai to maximize your mods. If you just plan a few things, are kinda tight on money, and worry about hydrolocking, and dont want to dissasemble a few parts of your car then go with an sri...those were my reasons. Good luck though
well, how about the sound factor?
short ram louder than cold air?
if it is, how much louder?
enough to make the sound of your aftermarket muffler unnoticeable during acceleration?

Might depend on your muffler type, but I really doubt that any sri/cai would drown out the sound of a performance muffler(s). Either way you go (sri/cai) your engine will have better performance.
depends on ur local weather... i live in wyoming... i normaly race in 30ish degree weather so a SRI works fine... i acutaly kept the normal tube down past the sensor then i took off the box and put on a small part of a SRI and a cone filter
For me it's not worth it. Having had both CAI's and shorty rams, I prefer the shorty. A little less power gain but also less expense, no water worries, and I don't have to disassemble the car to check & clean the friggin' filter.
For other peeps it is worth it but not for this ole boy!

well i helped my friend put his aem v2 cai into his car and it took about 50-60 min. but installing it was easy which took about only 20 minutes but taking off the factory intake took a little longer about 30-35 minutes. helps this info. helps you out.
