Default 96 accord LX 2.2 exhaust help

My resonator pipe rusted and snapped clean off of the flange connecting it to the motor a week or so ago. A friend of mine that works on cars replaced it yesterday with a Resonator Assembly by Walker - part# 46865 and since the side of my muffler was blown out I replaced that as well with a Quiet-Flow SS Stainless Steel Direct-Fit Assembly by Walker - part# 55074. I really had two questions. The gasket that advance auto parts tells you to use when installing the system doesn't fit so we looked at some others and none of them seem to fit either so I don't know what to do about that and honestly I doubt that tells you enough to be able to help me anyway (love cars but don't know much about the yet). The issue I REALLY care about correcting is when I get to 40-50mph and hit the brake there is a knocking sound coming from the exhaust system and I can feel it in the floor (it also does it at random points but the hitting the brake between 40-50 is an almost every time kind of thing). Since I can feel it in the front of the car I really doubt it has anything to do with the gasket but I am thinking that maybe the resonator is bad or maybe it is hitting a nut or something. Any help would be appreciated I'm sure my friend can figure it out whenever I see him but I would love to go to him knowing what to look for after all time is money (we aren't real close so yeah he charges a low labor rate).

I would suspect some of the exhaust hangers (bars that link to rubber rings from frame hooks). This would allow exhaust system to move and contact frame or other parts.

Or, it may be the parts fit is not perfect and part of exhaust system is too close to body. I had this on an aftermarket catalytic converter installed in a Subaru Forester. I was able to remedy by bending the bracket contacting the exhaust system to gain clearance.

Suggest checking w/ Walker Mufflers about gasket.

good luck

when I have those problems I check the heatshield around the exhaust. It likes to bend for no reason sometimes and will make a clunking sound in the right situation. exhaust hangers may very well be the noise too. As for a gasket I swear by hondabond HT and I use it for my entire exhaust exept header-head gasket.
good luck to you!

I have a walker pipe just before the muffler, I ended up using the larger walker gasket that actually they suggest for the exhaust manifold 31357 it was a lot thicker although slightly larger in diameter. Sounds like a heat shield problem, you may want to check the catalytic converter shield as well to make sure its not cracked anywhere
