if one breaks apartlike in my mothers dodge ram you will have like 15% power... haha... what it did was disintegrate blew back to the muffler and stopped it up like a cork...

well does a red-glowing cat converter indicate that the cat converter is clogged?? and a significant loss of power and lag???

i would think so. dont know from experience but if its getting that damn hot.... red hot... the exhaust gases probably arent passing through quick enough. that could cause a serious problem i think.

if nothing else replace it anyway. a new cat will be good all around. flow better, even if its not a highflow.

talk about backpressure...

A bad cat will DEF. cause a loss of power. Hit your cat with a broom handle or something, and if it just makes a bang noise its fine. But if it jingles like little pieces of metal, well than its toast. A totally blocked one will basically make you floor your car everywhere. If you look at your cat you will notice the bolts are different...as in they have a spring around them. This is a emergency releif valve. So if the pressure become to great (from a clogged muffler, or bad cat) it forces the cat to move open and allow exhaust to exit.

An easy way to test, is to wrap your cat in a few layers of aluminum foil and rev ita little. If no tears, rev it more and if there is a tear, you have a leak! I think I told you to do this with your header as well! Let us know how it goes.
