I moved your post for better attention.

My own opinion is stick w/ original parts. CAI's only change sound of air intake and offer no performance benefits.

good luck

Your car already has a very good CAI; unless you want more noise don't mess with it.

X3 do not change it,,best thing to do is get a drop in K & N air filter, and you will get mixed reviews on this topic as well. I run a drop in K & N air filter for the last 11 yrs and have had ZERO ISSUES with it.

After-market CAI's are not worth the money invested, you can increase air flow and get the 'sound' desired simply by removing the baffles from the resonator box (do not remove the entire resonator box) which has been added to quieten the intake air rush for the general buying public... plus removing the baffles will give you a true cold air intake. All under the hood CAI models are still breathing at least some warm air from the engine compartment.

Here is an example:

Not sure where you're getting this from; virtually every factory intake I can think of pulls in 100% "cold" air from the leading edge of the hood; that is, except for the units which have an alternate path to help the engine warm up, and then once warm, 100% cold air. The flip side is that virtually all short ram intakes breathe hot engine compartment air, and many so-called CAIs, uhhh, for a lack of a better term, aren't.

I agree, Shipo. What I was saying, or attempting to say, is that after-market CAI's pull in a higher percentage of warm engine air compared to the factory intake
