Default intake help!

hey guys I'm a noobie at cars basically, and just joined this forum
i was looking at aem's v2 cai
what do you guys think about it?
are there any other suggestions?
and what is the difference between short ram intake and cold air.
ive read a lot about short ram and how the pipin is metal so it conducts more heat making the engine suck in hotter air is this true?

And also, how much hp would you gain from new headers?

this is a heavily talked about topic. you can look on previous pages of this forum and find many posts on cai vs. sri. basically a cai uses longer piping and the filter mounts near the wheel well or your front tire. the sri has short tubing and the filter stays under your hood. thecons of a cai is if you submerge the filter in water it will suck in water into your engine hydrolocking it which will be a catastrophic failure=need new engine. the pros are it sucks in cooler air from outside because the filter is away from the engine bay. cooler air=more horsepower. the cons of a sri is less horsepower than the cai, but still more than stock air box, because the filter is mounted in the engine bay sucking in hotter air. the pros is easier installation, easier to clean the filter because it is more accesible, and you don't have to worry about hydrolock. they do, however, have air bypass valves which you install with your cai to prevent hydrolock. the thing is they cost about $45, and you can't use them on the aem v2, which by the way is the best, most advanced, cai on the market. so, you have a decision to make. personally, i went with an aem sri.
as for headers, you can get 5-15hp depending on your car.

Yeah I went with the sri too. It's much less work than the CAI and still the SRI greatly outperforms the factory intake. There's barely a difference in horsepower gain between the two, you won't really feel that much of a difference at all. The AEM v2 is a very good cai, but the fact that you can't use a bypass valve on it and that it's really expensive just makes it pointless. It's up to you, but the sri is in my opinion the best way to go.

You have to submerge your car in 3-4 feet of water...and let it sit there for a while to get hydrolock.

SRI is a lot easier to clean...so that's why I went SRI...and it sounds more beast.

besides the bypass valve are there any other ways to prevent hydrolocking with a cai?

I think im going with the SRI after reading this thread, again. Is there any model that outpreforms the other. Not just Injen over AEM, but a specific model.

I put a Bomz Racing SRI ($38) on mine and added a K&N filter ($50). Definite performance gain and easy install for less money than AEM or Injen.
