accord 96-97 why so good?
Hello I am new to this site. I do have a 98 civic and I love the car. So my question is why do I see sOOO many 96-97 accords still driving on the road? I know their great cars and I talk to people with 250-300K miles and they have the same engine and tranny, the 5 speeds go more! So I am interested in buying a 97 accord ex 4 door, should I be timid at buying one with 100,000 miles thats been maintained? And what are the most expensive repairs with these cars later in life? I know the exhaust has many components. What makes these cars great?? I know the 98-02 had issues with auto trannies and the 5 speed is the only way to go. Thank you for any input.

I have owned a 95 and a 97 Accord and both have treated me well. You also see a lot on the road because a lot were sold. I would not be worried at all to buy one with 100,000 or more miles on it, both of mine i bought with at least that many.
Probably one of the high points of them are parts are pretty cheap to get, and its a relatively simple car so its easy to do the work yourself. I guess the only expensive maintenance that would be needed would be a timing belt, but thats the same with almost any car with 100,000 or more miles. But maybe you can find one that just had it done.
I'm not sure the Accord is any more reliable than the Civic though. I still see plenty of 90s and even 80s civics on the road.
