Hello, I've just purchased my first Honda, a 2007 Accord EXL-V6 with 96k on her. Bought from original owners yesterday (an older couple) who said its been in the shop only for routine maintenance, brakes, etc. I know about changing the serpentine belt by 100k, is there anything else I need to know to do my part to help it live up to the great Honda reputation? Also, I do have an issue I would appreciate some help with. The door on the storage compartment ahead of the shifter is stuck closed. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

 

A few comments:

• You beat me by a year; I bought my first Honda when I was 55.
• Regarding the "serpentine belt", no, that's not the critical belt at that point (which is 105,000 miles by the way), the belt you need to change is the Timing Belt (and tensioner and water pump). That said, changing the serpentine belt at the same time is usually a good idea.

A couple other general things...

If automatic transmission, drain/fill the ATF with Honda fluid. Not sure what's a good interval, some people say every 30k miles?

Power steering fluid is also special for Honda. Don't use the stuff that says "all makes".

Welcome. It looks like a couple of us here are in the same age bracket. I bought my wife's 00 Accord (our 1st Honda) at 53 in Nov 2013, and that started our progression into Hondas. I bought my 97 Accord on her birthday in 2016, as a replacement for my old 92 Geo Prizm (Toyota Corolla clone), as it was showing it's age (mainly used as a winter car in the salt). Then I found the 99 Accord just around the corner from me that I got for 350 bucks. It's needed some work, but everything does work.

I think your 2007 uses a chain drive timing set up, and it's the tensioners that wear, causing the chain to stretch. I'm not 100% sure of that, but I think that's what Honda started using in 2003.

 

Starting in 2003 Honda put a timing chain on the 4-cyl Accord engine. The V-6 still has a timing belt.
