Default Hello from Wisconsin!

Hello! I am a computer network engineer from Wisconsin. I just bought my first Honda, a 2012 Accord LX, 4-cyl/5-speed, with 32,500 miles, after a chance encounter on AutoTrader at 4am.

I'm here to learn more about my new ride and to keep her healthy and strong. She needs to stay around for a long time.

The engine didn't even cool off from the drive home before my credit card started taking a hit. A 16" snow tire & wheel package and WeatherTech floor liners are en route.

I can already tell the TPMS is going to be a pain in the ***. My local dealer may be happy they get to see me at the beginning and end of the winter season, but I'm not ready for such a cozy relationship with the service department.

Anyway, greetings from Wisconsin (current temperature: 12, which is 20 degrees warmer than it was yesterday).

Welcome to HAF

Got any pic's of the new ride?

I forget the different "deals" on the TPMS....some if you go without them you lose TPMS and VSA (vsa and snow usually don't mix well). Also call around as many tire shops can program the different TPMS, might be cheaper than the dealer.

Here you go - just your basic Accord LX, with a dusting of snow:

Snowshoes!

It's a little odd that my winter rims are nicer than my summer rims, but Tire Rack was out of steelies when I ordered.

Yea, I think I would switch those rims to your summer tires Unless you have more "rim plans"?

SO how are you taking to the new ride? Any good or bad things so far

My tentative plans are to wear out the brand-new set of Dunlops the dealer installed on the stock rims, then get a summer tire package on 17" or 18" rims. If for some reason I don't choose to upgrade, I'll move the winter tires over to the steelies when the Dunlops wear out.

The winter tires are Bridgestone Blizzak WS-70's in the stock 16" size. Of course, now that I have winter tires, the skies stop snowing on me. Oh well...

So far, the Accord is treating me well. The thing that strikes me is how crisp and responsive everything is, from the shifter to the throttle to the brakes to the steering. It drives smaller than it is, and that's a good thing. It also packs a lot of passenger space into its relatively small footprint.

The manual shifter is, hands-down, the best shifter I've ever used (and I've driven a lot of manuals).

The downsides I've found are fairly minor:
- The dash vents won't give me full heat unless I split it with the floor vent. This seems like an odd design decision (it doesn't appear to be malfunctioning).
- The daytime running lights light up the dashboard. At night, you thus lose a critical cue that you forgot to turn on the headlights.

Glad it is working out for you.

Yea, the dash lights would throw me off as well....does seem strange.
