Hey all...thought I'd go ahead and register. I'm on another Accord forum, but the activity level just isn't enough for my loquacious self. Anyway, I made sure to put my car info in my signature as requested.

Ummm, let's see, I have a 100 mile rt commute every day, so I put a lot of highway miles on my car. I just got it in September and already have around 14-15K on it, not sure. I take very, very good care of it, e.g. all the necessary maintenance is kept up to date and I keep it clean and shiny, inside and out. I've been using Motorcraft 5W-20 with Purolator PureOne filters, but I'm switching to Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 at the next change and plan to use it going forward. My goal is to get at least 300K out of this without anything major, so anything I can do to that end, within reason, I will do.

I love the silky smooth V6 and the amazing power/acceleration it seems to have through the whole torque curve. I'm very cautious about the 5AT with its sketchy history, but it seems Honda may have fixed the problem for the most part. It will get a lot of careful, regular attention.

I drive moderately and don't push it too much, but I do occasionally open it up pretty good. But not too much or too often...like I said, 300K.

This isn't my first Honda or Accord. I had a 92 LX that got over 200K before my sister got a hold of it and trashed it. Otherwise, my wife had a '91, I had an 83 Civic Wagon with the 1.3L, and an '01 Odyssey LX.

Welcome to the forum! Always glad to have another member! Do you have any plans for modifying your Accord? Let me know how you like the Penzoil Platinum oil when you switch, I have also thought about doing that!

 

Welcome...You mentioned oil changes. Do you go by the oil life monitor, or do you change oil more frequently?

No, I probably won't do any type of major modifying. I'm mainly concerned with regular but meticulous maintenance and care, and perhaps some occasional improvements, but nothing too extravagant. I like it the way it is!

I'll be doing some UOA's on the PP after I switch. I'll keep everyone posted...I'm an oil hound!

 

Since I drive so many highway miles, it was taking a while for the OLM to tick down. So I broke down and changed out the factory fill at about 5700 miles, 30% on the OLM. On the second oil change, i did it almost exactly the same mileage, but the OLM showed 40%. I used Motorcraft 5W-20 on the first two changes which I think is an outstanding syn blend oil. But I thought why not try for a *little* more with the GIII PP and run it up to 15% and feel really good about it. So I figure with the PP I'll actually let it go down to the actual OLM recommendation rather than cheating and changing it earlier. I scored a bunch of it at Advance Auto recently on the BOGO offer, so $2.84/qt is not much more than dino. So I'm good for about a year.
