Hi all,

I have a brand new 08 Accord EX-L and was wondering if anyone knew when it would be safe tio wax the car.I don't know if the paint needs to "set" for a while or not. I don't want to go rubbing that nice clear coat off the car.

Per RTexasF, new cars are cured before you get it, so it's safe to wax ..... or OptiSeal.

 

I think it was RTexasF that said factory paint is heat sealed so it's okay to wax it. Maybe try stripping the wax and aynthing out of the paint with something and then use a nice sealer on it...? Then wax.

 

If you're worried about it, check the sticker in the driver's doorjamb for the month when the car was actually built. Check the 'Detailing' board here, maybe someone over there has some expertise.

But...
I'm pretty sure the factory paint is catalyzed or something; so it's pretty much cured by the time it rolls out of the factory.

I'd do what he did ..... a new car is a prime canidate for Opti Seal!

Wet Paint is also a good sealer and my personal favorite wax is IBIZ.

 

I waxed mine fairly early during ownership. I have done that with the last few new cars I have owned and have had no ill effects.
