Default New little 1996 LX in the family...needs love..

Hey folks, I'm just now signing up this forum to see all the good information about trying to get my 1996 lx running well.

155k miles, auto...needs lots of attention.

1. right inner tie rod
2. left drive axle
3. balance shaft seal & retainer (NEVER GOT LETTER FROM HONDA ON THIS RECALL)...campagin over. Boooo...
4. motor mounts
5. valve cover gasket
6. timing belt & all seals in there..cam seals, etc, etc
7. tires

whew...like i said lot's to do...but I wanna do it slowly and keep on budget.

I'm driving it all a couple of times a week..cold AC, a little tranmission shutter (maybe the mounts), weak window lifts...

But I love it...!!! Hope to do most of it myself.

Welcome to HAF. Look forward to hearing of your work.

Suggest just inspecting the camshaft and crankshaft seals and adding camshaft seal retainer unless they are leaking. Seal is not a planned maintenance item. It's possible to create a problem (scratch sealing surfaces) where none exists.

Suggest you replace timing belt, balance shaft belt, water pump, tensioner, and oil pump/balance shaft cover oring gasket (leaks w/ age).

You need a good shop manual. Suggest purchasing an online e-manual or hard copy Honda Shop Manual. automanualsource (vendor name) on ebay is good vendor for e-manuals.

good luck
