Default Repair Flex Pipe on OWN---help

Hi everyone. i have a 91 accord lx that is in need of a new flex pipe. i called the auto store and they have one for 125.00. since i really dont want to put anymore money in this car, is there anyway i can rigg something up to plug the leak? The mesh weave is coming off a little bit from where it is connected to the pipe itself. Any ideas??? thanks!

Is it leaking? The mesh braid is kind of a protective cover over a flexible bellows.

Actually $125 sounds inexpensive for that pipe.

yes it is leaking...theres a small tear where the flexible part meets the pipe. i know it does sound expensive for the part from the exhaust manifold to the cat...but i was just gonna try and do a semi quick fix

Well, the bellows underneath the braid will need to flex. I've never seen a repair product that could flex like that. I think any of the normal cement stuff would crack & fall off as the joint flexes.

how about a piece of sheet metal or a soup can clamped around that part...maybe that will still be flexible enough and still direct the exhaust away from the tear???

Check ebay for new/used parts. Check car-part.com for used Accords near you and call for part availability. I don't think you'll find that part in the car-part.com listing.

good luck
