Look up "boost controller", "wastegate", "blow off valve", "turbo AR" and "Turbo trim" on Wikipedia and/or Google for a good start.

how close to stock spec. are these definitely good enough for boost? maybe a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being best. thanks :]

would a turbo off an old dodge daytona serve me at all for my car? its manufactured by mitsubishi but would it work well for my car?

Well what is the turbo from the Daytona? If you can get it it to fit without much customization then yes, you should be able to. If anything, you would need a kit to make sure everything runs good and reliable on the engine.

There's more work to installing a turbo than just throwing it onto the exhaust manifold and having more horsepower.

Tuning is the most crucial thing for Turbos. If you can properly tune an engine with a turbo, you don't have to build the bottom end necessarily. HondaTuning did a 500hp setup on a B16A with only installing new pistons, and tuned it extensively to handle 24lbs of boost.
