Default Autozone parts are cr_p

l just went to all the trouble of replacing my engine in a 99 Accord. While the engine was out I changed the thermostat in the donor motor because it was prudent and easy to do with the motor out. The thermostat was a $7.99 Autozone Special. It just failed after a month of use. Lucky, I didn't throw away the old one. Thank God, I pulled over and had it towed and didnt keep driving it till I fried the motor. Would that have been a pister to have gone through all that trouble of changing the motor and two weeks later wreck the motor due to a cheap after market thermostat!!!

When it comes to important parts that wreck your motor go OEM

I've been using AutoZone thermostates---RobertShaw Mfg for 18 years and have never had one fail yet..also have used or sold thousands over the same last 18 years, so saying that Auto Zone Parts are Cr_p is not a very fair statement..

I agree with you.

While some parts may be worth OEM (electronic parts) the cost difference is worlds apart. I have been using Autozone parts for years with not one problem.

This is the same thing as having a motor or transmission blow up on a new car, would you go around saying that brand of car is crap??? Problems happen.

Instead of a tow truck I would have gotten a 10 mm socket and driver and pulled the bad thermo out and continued to drive the car home. Even Dollar general sells socket sets now so finding one would have not been very hard.

YMMV

I'm not the biggest fan of autozone parts. I usually try to get my parts from advanced auto rather than duralast but I haven't had any catastrophic failure with autozone parts.
