Default Which Gear to Go Fast

I am wondering how fast my 10 year old accord can max at. I usually keep it at D4 like most people and it goes max at 120. I tried gear 1 at a 40 mile zone and it sounds like the engine is working rly hard at a low speed. What gear is best to use when you try to go fast?

1st then shift it manually up the gears. Just don't let it get into the red zone. D3 is fine if you don't like shifting manually.

We're talking about an Automatic Transmission right?

If so, you can keep moving up gears like that with an auto? I never knew, i shall try it

When ripping, I usually hold 1 until around 6200 rpm's and switch to 2. It will shift just before 7000. After the 1 to 2 shift, D3 is the best place to have the shifter. D3 is good to a little over 120 and will have more power then D4 until it's maxed out.

Then again, I have the tranny that Honda screwed up on. Yours might behave differently.

Should Try to shift right before limtier cuts off. Its best to try to keeep the car in high rpmsthrough all gears. For example if you shift at 6,200 rpm from 1st to second. When your in 2nd you start off maybe at 3,800rpm. But if you shift at 6,800 you beearound 4,300rpm range. Belaive me there is a big difference in quater mile racelike that for hondas, since hondas make there torque and power very late in rpm range.

I shift at 6200 and the gear changes at almost 7000! If I hold onto it longer, the shift will be late and hit the limiter (it's happened once or ten times .

After the 1 to 2 shift, the TCU will shift right before the bounce at 7000 by itself, so there's no gain in manually limiting the gears beyond 2nd for me.

At a 7000 rpm shift, the car drops to about 4200 rpms which is well above my 3200 rpm vtec engagement. 3400 to about 4800 rps is a blur since it accelerates so fast there.
