Default The money pit is gone!

Finally got the wife a new car. Bought it yesterday afternoon. It's a 2009 Ford Edge SEL. Redfire Metallic exterior. Light Stone cloth interior (passed up on the leather since the baby is only 1 & 1/2).
It has Microsoft Sync which is really cool. It syncs with your cell phone and it has a USB port so you can hook up an iPod or even a jump drive with mp3's on it.
265 HP and it will get up and go pretty good for a 4000 lb brick on wheels.
It has other goodies I have not played around with yet as well. Apparently it also has a reverse assist mechanism that will beep at you if you are coming close to backing into an object.
Now I need to slap a SRI on it haha. I told my wife I was going to put a loud exaust system on it - she was not amused. I wish we could have waited till next year when ecoboost comes out, but it was long past time for a new car.

Traded in the money pit (95 Accord EX V6.) I think my wife was actually a little sad to see it go since she had it for 10 years. I didn't even mess with the trade since the car was in her dad's name(he bought it long before I even met my wife). Her dad is the commercial accounts manager and new salesman recruiter at the Ford dealership, so I didn't even have to haggle about the price on the Edge either. I actually didn't even know exactly how much we paid for it till I got home and looked over the paperwork we sigend.

The trade: $1,600. That was twice what I figured they would give us for it.
Here's why:
-The speedometer doesn't work (works intermittently)
-The odometer doesn't work (only works when the speedo works - reads about 130k, but actual mileage is unknown - probably more like 140k)
-Check engine light is on (bad o2 sensor)
-ABS light stays on (not even going there on what is causing that)
-The thermostat needs to be replaced (stuck open)
-It leaks refrigerant (I used to have to refill it 2 times every summer)
-It leaks about a quart of oil every 3 months from around the oil pan gasket.
-The driver side leather seat is cracked badly and looks terrible.
-Coffee and coke stains on the carpet
-Small dent in the left quarter panel
-Dent and a touch of rust on around the right headlight (wife hit an armadillo back in high school, but the damage wasn't very noticeable)
-Touch of rust on the hood.
-Bunch of dings on the right rear passenger door from being careless in the garage and whacking it with the door from the 00LX when loading the baby into the car seat.
I guess I too am a little sad to see her go. I've put a lot of time in under the hood of that car (as many of you well know from all of my early posts on here.)
That car is what brought me to this site.

Oh yeah... my dad finally sold my 91 5.0 Mustang too. I didn't even ask how much he sold it for. He told me he "practically gave it away" to a kid going off to college that really needed a car.

Now I just need to figure out how we are going to pay for the Edge.......

Congrats on the new car... even if it IS a Ford... haha.

Judging by the list of maladies, I would say you made a killing with the trade.

Enjoy your new car!

But other than that it was OK, right?

I haven't "driven a Ford lately". Maybe "Four Old Rusty Doors" really has turned over a new leaf. Please report how it goes with the new car.

Congrats!

4000 lb brick, huh? First time I saw a commercial, I thought the Edge might be pretty cool, for an SUV. When I first saw one in person it was about 40% larger than what I had imagined. Not for me...

Other than that, I haven't seen you on the boards as much lately. Doing all your posting in that monster "OFFICIAL" Off-Topic thread?? I can't even keep up with that one.

I did not get the double moonroof. The money pit had a moonroof and my wife could probably count on her fingers the # of times she used it in the past 5 years. So she felt it was an expensive option that she would never use, plus it would likely leak in 10 years (it never did leak on the money pit though haha.)
Yeah I haven't had time to get on here. Now that they have me handling workers comp claims, I have a few catastophic ones going on right now taking up a lot of my time. One guy fell 4 floors and survived. one guy got pulled through an industiral lathe while he was working on a giant saw blade used in a cotton gin - he also survived.
So far the only issue with the Edge is the power mirrors - they only move out and up. they will not move inward or downward. My DIY self is tempted to try to fix it on my own but I have to keep telling myself this car doesn't even have 600 miles on it so I need to let the dealership do it haha.
The Sync is awesome. You push a button on the steering wheel and say someone's name in your phone book and it calls them for you. if the phone rings, the radio displays who it is and silences the radio allowing you to answer the phone or decline it. it has other stuff as well that i haven't even messed with yet.
I will keep an update on the satisfaction. My wife loves it so far. I bought the tag today though....ouch! $367! the tag on the money pit cost $35.
So far it has gotten a respectable 21mpg doing mostly city driving. Not too bad for a 265 hp V6 pulling a 4000 lb brick.

I did not opt for the AWD (it is an option). I read about problems with the differential (leaked and caused a burning smell.) Plus the gas mileage suffers due to AWD. Also I am in Mississippi and wouldn't need it unless I wanted to go mud bogging.

Oh yeah and Jim: it is really not as big as you would think. it is not any longer than my 2000 LX and I don't think it is much wider. It is a lot taller of course. It fits in the garage just fine in the money pit's old oil covered spot.

Rear springs breaking?
