between the hub and control arm? how does that help separate the ball joint? I'll give the hammer a try tomorrow. I just showered cause i'm heading over to my grandmas in a few hours(celebrate christmas on christmas eve with my mom's side). It'll give me something to do tomorrow though so I dont have to hear the same stories as all other family gatherings.

You can hammer in the pickle fork to separate the joint, thats why it gets fat. Hopefully you can get the fork around the boot and not on top of it. It should go around the boot, with the 2 sides of the fork pushing against the hub and control arm. And then you just hammer the end of it. Think of it as a wedge with a cutout in the middle for the joint.

I've never used the other type of separator, I've always been able to just whack the stud up and out of the seat.

oh so the fork should take up the whole gap of the ball joint to try push the hub up and the lower control arm down, alright, hopefully it will work out.

Yeah... I dont mean to offend you, but I think its hilarious that you can do all this engine building and swapping, which i blow at, and you come on here asking for ball joint help lol. Good luck with it though, I wont be online to help out

Good to see you guys werent in here hawring on christmas eve/day!

Well Im all set to go to Florida. Just put my full size spare in and topped off the oil... decided not to change it and am just going to change it in Florida since I've only got 1600 miles on a $37 oil change. Were supposed to be getting freezing rain right now and tomorrow, but tomorrow is supposed to be 40* so well see how the rides are. Wish me luck and keep me in your prayers for a safe drive down, driving through the snow belt is going to be hell but I should be out of it by tomorrow afternoon.

Seeya later HAF... I'll post up sunny florida pictures in a thread when I get down/around to it!

that would be impossible with 24+ hours of driving. I get to drive tomorrow during the day and in the snow and the friend is taking over for the rest of the trip. he works night shift and is used to staying up all night anyways.

Only reason were leaving during the morning is there shouldnt be any ice on the roads at 40*, whereas the freeways usually freeze over when it drops to 0* at night.
