The Old Official OFF-TOPIC Thread Is Done
Hubs on? Powerslot is about the best bang for the buck. I don't like EBC stuff... they haven't really lived up to their advertising yet.
Still rocking $20/piece chinese rotors!!! Actually, they're really awesome compared to some more "expensive" rotors I've bought.
Finally got a damn job! At a shop! Working on cars, not answering phones!

So i bought two BNIB Oz Audio 300H subs the other day. They arrived in original boxes, one perfect, one not so perfect.
one plays perfect, tests perfect, etc.
one was poorly stored, pressure on the cone and surround caused the surround to lose contact where it meets the cone. i think a simple surround replacement is in their future, but for now i wanted to test it out for general operation. so i figured i'd try a small bead of silicone along the entire inner and outer edge. I did not get any on the actual cone, or basket, just the surround edges.
I also noticed that #2 spider is not flat, it is sunk in a bit. This repair is intended to allow me to play it for several hours to see if i have any chance of returning it to "zero". we'll see.
I was fully refunded for the bad woofer, and told to keep it.
below is a photo-catalog of this process.
notice how #2 has different specs, and the Vas difference (i used the added mass method of measuring Vas). I am doubtful I will be able to save this sub, those specs are pretty far off.

I cleaned the edges with q-tips and alcohol

small medicine plunger worked perfect

a bit glossy but we'll see how she looks once that is dried

Next, the tinsel leads were actually crossed, i desoldered them and resoldered them, adjusting how they laid
this is after some massaging, but before the rework

desoldering braid

a very light piece of open cell foam to prevent any lead slap

that was last night. tonight i'll start testing it for full excursion capabilities and run 30-50Hz tones through it for a few days to see how the T/S parameters change, if at all.

my garage needed some organization. i had a lot of stuff stacked in corners, with a lack of free space. storage helped that a lot. so this fall I reorganized.

getting my ladders and saw horses hung helped free up space. check out the race car sleds - they have working steering and brakes.

these lights are great for working in a trunk

i built this to get my lumber off the floor

it is pretty stout - made from 2x4's and secured against the wall to help keep it from moving

i had been waiting to get these hooks up for my extension cords. that outlet is GFCI and has a switch so i can safely adjust tools without constantly unplugging them.

my main desk and my tool kits with a beer fridge underneath and some new shelves for my storage bins above

this briefcase has most of my install tools

the tackle box has all of my connectors - a great way to stay mobile since i do a lot of installs in homes and other locations

my assortment of connectors for phone/CATV/data and audio

lastly, i built a shelf to get my stereo equipment off the desk

a Pioneer receiver runs some Eclipse point source and a pair of 12's with a custom passive crossover. for source units i have Sirius sat radio, and mp3 player, and a JVC cassette (just cuz). It rocks. the speakers are on a shelf by the window so i can turn them around and play into the back yard.

the desks are great since they provide work space and storage. i have three runs of CAT5E and two runs of RG6 that aren't terminated yet. i'll have a sat TV, computer with internet, and phone soon. i'd also like to add more speakers and locate them away from the window with dedicated outdoor speakers.
the garage walls have 2" rigid fiberglass insulation that came off a roof for a demo project. I have more in the rafters to do the whole ceiling. then i'd like to cover the walls in white Melamine. the biggest trick is that i need 3 1/2" or 4" screws to to through the insulation and secure anything to the studs now.
