Secret Accord recall
#12
I have been having this problem for a few years now 3.5L V-6. I first brought it in and they changed two spark plugs and reprogrammed the computer. I told them it was bogus and just a band aid repair. Some 30,000 miles later (now 92K on the car) and it is still consuming and the Check engine light and VSA lights came on. Misfire in cylinders #1 and #3. Brought it into Honda and they told me I was out of warranty from a date perspective which I already knew but that Honda may assist. Honda is picking up most of the tab and they are currently doing a ring job on the car.
Here is the fix. Apparently they only change the rings in the front three cylinders and replace 4 of the spark plugs. I think it has to do with the VCM thing where the engine just runs on 3 cylinders when under light load.
Does anyone know why they only do 3 cylinders and it supposedly doesn't effect all 6??

Every car company has "secret" warranty extensions. I got a check from Ford when I had an ignition part go bad. Had it fixed at an independent repair place. The best story was a coworker had a Dodge Caravan. Had the brakes replaced at an independent repair place. They sent him a check and replaced the bad and rotors again for free, even though they were new. They really aren't secret, just not always publicized. It might be a good idea to do an internet search before every repair.
