should i buy a honda
I have a 6G. 5mt and two cousin's have the same car with the automatic. Both have over 180K and neither one of them has ever had a tranny problem. They do take their car's to Honda for service.
I've a sneaky suspicion that many of the "problem" automatics might have been fed some Dexron or other stuff sometime during their lives.
Unless your Accord is a 2003+ 4-cyl, you need to be aware that they need timing belts every 100k miles. Just in case someone is selling it to avoid that expensive service.
Don't know whether Camry, etc, use belts or chains, so maybe its about the same whichever car you choose.

i test drove a 98 today with 174,000 the lot was asking 4995. honda's are unfortunately expensive. it was a 2.3 which to me seemed slow. the engine felt eager and like revving but just didnt have the juice. but the transmission was replaced.
Dealerships price those Hondas at a premium. If you can find one from a private owner you'll probably be able to spend a little less.
Like Derek said in an earlier post, be prepared to spend another $1000 to $1500 on the car whether you buy it from a dealer or a private party. Some things will be necessary some will just be things you want to personalize to your self.
Good luck!
