Default Stephen Hawking meets his Waterloo

Britain’s Stephen Hawking, 67, says he’ll soon be arriving in Canada for a one-month stay.
He’s booked for the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics in Waterloo, Ontario, next summer, it says.
He’ll be a research chair.
“Perimeter Institute is a very exciting venture,” Hawking states.
“Its chosen scientific focus, quantum theory and space-time, is very close to my heart.”
A new Hawking wing is being built at a cost $30 million as part of the institute’s expansion campaign.

Quantum physics IS the real world. Without it, nobody would have believed that a solid-state diode would ever work (quantum tunneling of electons). Without a diode, it wouldn't have been extended to become a transistor. Almost all solid-state electronics operate because of quantum effects (tunneling conduction through barrier-layers).

So... How big would your laptop computer be, if it had to be built out of vacuum-tube diodes?

Smile Hey Jim

It more than likely would be as big as that first Cell Bag phone I started out with over 20 years ago

But 30 million would sure go a long way on my street here in Massillon.
They built a wing before on the building and have done well with that wing...How many wings does it need..more I guess...
