Very Bad Problem
My poor, poor 99' Accord LX. I was in my car and i was turning around down the street at my friends house and when i put the car in second, it didnt engage, so i brought it out and ran it through first and brought back into second, it was very stiff trying to go in and i was in a no-bull**** mood so i just pulled harder, a little to hard. I now have no gears left. 1-2-3-4-5-R... arent there anymore, i guess im gonna have to talk to the dealer where i bought the car because when i had the transmission serviced at my local shop, there was ATF in Manual trans... i might get a new one for free...
thanks. im probably going to get a junkyard transmission and put new synchro's in it so this wont happen again. And... i found out that the dealer put ATF in my trans instead of MTF... i might be able to get a new trans
I hope that they give you a new transmission no charge, since well it is their screw up. I wish you the best in your battle since im sure they would put up a fight. A friend of mine recently had her transmission done too and it just gave out like you said. The only thing is that her's is an automatic. I wonder could the same idiot be working in two places?
I don't think ATF would kill all your gears... sounds like what 91turbo said - the clutch flew apart. how fast were you going when you put it in first? You may not need a new tranny at all...
My car also did this when I snapped a drive axle racing.

I know that it's a different car but same idea... I had a 81 Chevy Citation which uses ATF for the manual transmission but some moron decided that 90W Gear lube should be used...(before I bought it) Well the tranny didn't work, I couldn't shift with the clutch (speed shift only), it turns out that it had been enough resistance to snap one of the tines of the fork holding my throwout bearing... But that's all having the wrong fluid did to the car... So long and short... I agree with mbo1985 I doubt it would kill all the gears by having the wrong fluid, but a striped clutch sure would...
long term exposure to the wrong type of transmission fluid could throw things off, but auto and manual trans fluid shouldnt be that vastly different to cause that problem..... but the transmission fluid being wrong can cause problems
