Tire questions
I went to Strauss auto parts last nite to get some stuff, as I was there, there was some kind of special where they'd check your tires for free, since I'm heading to Florida from NY I took advantage of it, one of the mechanics took a flashlight and went out to the parking lot, checked the tires and said they were shot and that my tires would not get me to FL.
He said there was a special on their tires, buy 4 and get a rebate for 1 (so you only pay for 3) $76.00 a piece + install it comes out to $476.00 but you get $76.00 back by mail.
Anyway:
Is this a good deal?
or is he trying to sell me tires?
I'll admit my tires can not be in the best shape, but will they blow out on me or what is the worst that can happen?
any advice I'll appreciate. thanks

A simple test can't tell you that... but, if your tires are needing replacement, it's best to do that before the trip. Belts showing through the tread, bulges, irregularities, gouges in the sidewall, etc. are signs/reasons to replace tires. Next to frame design and brakes, tire are one of the most important things on a car that make it safe. Not something to skimp on. Stick to good brands, and not some generic junk that doesn't go through the same research and development. You can head over to tirerack.com or treadepot.com and read tires reviews and what people think of them.
