Default Tire size / pressures query

Hi all,

First off I don't have an owners manual for my car so can't refer to one unfortunately.

I have a 2004 Honda Accord Tourer 2.2 iCDTI

Ever since I've had the car it's had 225/45/R17 tires on the front and 225/50/R17 tires on the rear. Is this normal on these cars? I was told by the previous owner that the profile was higher on the rears to improve the ride? I've no idea but does that sound right to anyone?!

Secondly, because I have no manual could anyone suggest what tire pressures I should be running on? I've been putting 32 in the front and 30 in the rears but don't know if this is correct.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply - however my rims are definitely 17in Honda rims (perhaps an after-market addition, but definitely still Honda-made), I've measured them up.

I just took a class on steering & alignment and I would think twice before I would ever change anything on the suspicion for sure. Things go out of alignment and affect lots/many other things. Wear starts on many parts and tires are first to show and go. On small import cars the instructor liked air pressure around 35 pounds in each tire which he said improved the ride (and gas millage) and stopping power. Otherwise the pressure is noted on the sticker on the driver side door jam. The stock tire size is noted also. Note: the pressure they will say to use will be low, around 26-28 pounds (maybe 30pounds) or so, which I think is too low. Also u need to check only when tires are cold not after driving for miles. Once filled, do not check during long drives like on a trip, check only once at the start, first thing. Good luck

Thanks JJC - I've done some experimenting in the last week, and the best balance I can find for the car is 34 pounds in the front, with 32 in the rear.

I've made sure I always check when cold too

Here is something I just learned. The tire info on the inside door jam of cars is only about the tires that come on the car because it was tested
with them. Any other tires you have to check with the maker of the tires.
NOW.... it is a known fact that car dealer's change tires when they get
them from the factory???? SEE the catch 22 in all this. We always need to check and research everything. Best of luck always
