WOW! Holy jammed brakes, Batman!!
yeah so my left rear wheel on my 03 accord V6 has been locking up on me. its the e-brake, which i have to use since its a stick. i guess it doesnt like the cold weather here in philly :/ the break freezes up and either drags the wheel or just eats away at the break pads. anyways, it normally unfreezes in a minute or 2 once the friction heats it up. and it hasnt even happened for a couple weeks...until today. on my way to the gym (like 1 mile away) it stayed locked up the whole time. i smelled burnt break pad and when i got out of my car the breaks on that wheel were smoking...literally.
so i took my dads truck to work. came home from work and went to drop my accord off at the shop. i drove out of my driveway and about 1/8th mile up the road to the main street. i got out of my car to check it and the disk was RED HOT. like i mean, it was f*cking GLOWING bright red, the entire disk. i couldnt even believe it. how could it have heated up THAT quickly? insane!
well the whole point of this thread is to see if anyone else has had similar problems. im hoping this isnt a common problem with accords or something...

Had that with a 95 Integra. It was a combination of the handbrake cable rusting, along with the handbrake return spring (down at the caliper) getting weak with age & heat. Along with corrosion of the shaft for the handbrake mechanism in the caliper.
It's amazing how much heat can be generated, but it's true.
Once it gets that hot, you'll probably want new calipers.
