Hope you don't mind if I jump in on the thread.. I'm in a similar situation, I am losing a pretty large chunk of my wheel well, I can see the frame at this point.. that's how bad the rust has gotten.. don't know what the hell to do.. I don't have 2 grand..

start with a product like POR 15, simular products are available at most autoparts stores to kill the cancer. you will lose no more than you already have of the body, it will turn the rust black and then it's up to you whether to try your hand at bondo or patching panels. If you want to replace body panels, I have availabilty to fenders, bumpers, etc.. all CAPA approved, meaning they are all high quality replaccement peices.

well I guess you're lucky.. mine's a 2000 SE and only one side has started rusting, everything else is like new.. but that side is so bad, I can now visibly see the frame through the noticeably large hole.. hell, I get car washes every time it snows and in the summer too..

^I live in Kentucky, so the car doesn't see much salt, they use bourbon. Seriously, they do use a mixture that has bourbon in it. The car is allways garaged, I'm not sure if that helps.

that explains it.. garaged cars usually last much better and the lack of tons of salt every winter likely helps a good bit..
