Accord Fiberglass Stealth Sub Box Project
Couple more shots of the box. Trying to show all angles to everyone can understand how and where it fits. I am thinking of building a couple and posting them on ebay. If anyones wants one they can message me here or email me here or respond to this thread,I get instant email notification. Also my direct email is Azenis29@aol.com. It would be nice to know if anyone wants one so I can decide on how many to build. They do take a good amount of time to make. Im thinking of selling them for 190.0 on ebay or 180.00 direct, save a bit on ebay listing fees.
Heres a couple shots of the v hull at the lake. I never got it up to full speed but it was starting to get moving fairly quickly. I know it would be a blast in some chop, the water was glass smooth that day. It looks simular to most v hulls. I like the fact that it has really nice sharp lines on the bottom of the hull and its laid up a bit on the heavy side so it can take any abuse you can give it. Good general purpose boat. The cat is more of a speed boat, designed for higher speeds and may not corner as well. The carb in this v hull is a walbro with no choke or primer bulb. Not even a air filter. It has a weird rigged together thru hull exhaust thats basically a straight pipe. I don't like the way the exhaust was built,I didnt make it. I am a perfectionist and make high quality stuff. I would rather make fewer products and sell fewer but make them top quality. My name goes into everything I produce and I take a great deal of pride in that.
This is the mold for the deck on the cat style boat. I have spent a lot of time wet sanding out inperfections with a mini sanding block. I started with 220 then 320,400,500,600,800,1,000 and finally 2000. Then buffed it back to a mirror shine with aquabuff compound designed for gelcoat.
These are actually plugs that molds are made from. They are carved from solid wood and weigh 50+ pounds each. Making these takes a ton of time. I have wet sanded both ,the canopy plug is nearly ready. As you can see I still have to gelcoat the hull plug and wetsand /buff it. I would rather get it perfect now than fix it later. The nicer I make the plugs the better my molds will be. I also am using sanding blocks the sand out blemishes and any slight hooks or rockers to make the best hull I possibly can. I have about 100 hours into these already. Another 60 and they should be ready to produce actual molds.
Newest speaker product. This is a plate for the diy'er that holds two 12 inch subs. You build your own box the size you need and mount this front plate onto it. This allows you to mount the plate at a angle or build the box and amp rack into a unit and have the plate shown off that way. The woofer openings are 11 1/8 inch. I made these with mat and 2 layers of 24 ounce roving on the back side. Very heavy duty! Glass is about 1/4 inch thick. This one is painted black and buffed out so you could shave in it if you wanted. These can be painted any color. They also are cheaper than my complete box and easier to ship. These allow a lot of flexibility, anything can be done with them. Only limited by your own creativity. Also the wooden MDF rings are glassed right in for the woofers to screw into. These are completely waterproof and can be used in boats. Since I made the plug and mold for this they are not available anywhere else. I've searched very few products like this anywhere, the one I found is no longer made. Anyone who wants one can email me direct at Azenis29@aol.com
I wouldn't run that boat with the hatch if the motor is air cooled. It's going to need a lot more air than that to stay cool. You could cut some vents into the deck and open the hatch up, but I would just run it without the hatch until you either water cool this motor or replace it. Ok well your carb is most likely a wt257, it's a great high performance carb and is the most common carb. Would definitely check the metering diaphragm on the top of the carb (side with the plate with a small hole and four bolts). I'm sure that diaphragm is wrinkled and needs to be replaced. I buy my diaphragms in packs of 10 for $25, or you can order a rebuild kit which is around $8. I have to change mine after ever two runs, but if you keep running camp fuel or ethanol free gas it will last you months. I'd also open the bottom and make sure the filter is clean, and if your not already run an inline filter. A hobby shop should have what you need, but maybe not.
Starting needle settings for that carb is 2 turns on the low, and 1 turn on the high. But your going to have to mess with both to get it tuned right. Pretty sure on my 257 I'm running 1 3/4 on the low, and 1 1/4 on the high. Both needles should equal around 3. And you don't run a filter on these carbs, just keep the hull clean and you will be fine.
The cat plug looks good, haven't seen a hull like that. Looks like the steps are only on the inside of the sponsons, wonder what that will do. And the sub plate looks nice too. 1/4" inch thick?! Man that must be bullet proof.

Thanks for the info on the carb. I may try to run that boat again tomorrow. Im thinking I should get a cheap electric RC boat for retreival duty. Yes 1/4 inch thick I built it to handle anything even the massive W7. The car audio shop I sell to carries JL audio. I also wanted the mounting flange thick so I could counter sink screws if I wanted. I have some trick paint on order for that plate and can offer it in some wild finishes very soon. Could also paint the boats in some wild paint schemes. Thanks for the compliments. I agree that cat hull is different. Looking closely at the hull and its obvious the builder knew what he was doing. Im sure it was designed after a popular race boat of some type. I like how large the canopy and opening are, easy to work on it. I will be stopping by the local hobby store looking for a high torque steering servo, better fuel tank, prather 280 prop and some hardware. I plan on buying a nicer engine and installing that into the cat hull once one is actually built. I want water cooled for sure and a through hull tuned pipe. I would like to find a motor larger than 26cc if possible. I'm known for being a bit extreme and I wan't the cat to go like nobodys business. If I don't get a rooster tail 4 foot or higher I won't be satisfied. I always build the crap out of stuff,I don't like average. The v hull is ok I only have about 100.00 into it and for that I am pleased it but am looking forward to getting top speed out of it soon.
Well with motors you can go crazy. Not really too many engines to choose from though, but plenty of options on how they are prepared. A fully modified zenoah will make 6hp+ at 18,000 RPM, you can get the motor to turn 20,000 but better power at 18,000. A full mod zen will run you about $500-$800, quite a few really good builder to choose from. You can even have a go at modding one yourself, plenty of good info online to build the same motor you can get from one of the top guys. You seem to have the skills to do it, so that would be the best for cost. A full mod zen will have the cat running in the high 60's. There is a new motor out there called an RCMK, makes more power out of the box, because of more aggressive timings but when fully modded not much different then a zenoah. Now there are the quickdraw engines, these bad boys are totally different beasts. Without getting into to much detail, the 26cc quick draw makes a bit more power than the full mod zenoah, and they come in two flavors high RPM or high torque. The 26cc quick draw is $800+ brand new, then there is the 35cc she's well over a grand brand new and too much power for that little cat.
The best exhaust you can get is either a quickdraw hot pipe (with the right header flange can be used on a zenoah), or CC racing 1" exhaust system. Most exhausts are running a 7/8th header, but that extra 1/8" makes a big difference in flow.
The best motor, hull, and hardware still won't do much if you don't have the boat trimmed right. Be ready to spend many weeks tweaking and tuning to get it trimmed and tuned in. I still haven't got my silex mono dialed in just right, but I'm just playing around not really racing.
Your rooster tail will definitely be about 4 feet, but a real high rooter tail means your running really inefficiently. You want it low and long. Don't worry man, even running in the 50's will be crazy fast on the water and tons of fun.
