no, the alt was a reman that had a weird sound when i got it, i knew it wouldn't last very long.

the caps are an easy load on the alternator and help supplement it. that's why they are specifically sold to help supplement batteries and why there are preferred over batteries in several applications.

i've seen the 2.85V versions. that's pushing it for a 14.4VDC system. You'd want to add the charge regulators to them for protection.

Without the bypass and h/o alt how much of a system can I realistically get in my '13 Civic with a good AGM battery replacing the stock? I think the stock alt is 80 amp and I have a MB Quart 100x2 on my components now that run fine but I have a matching sub amp that will be run at 2ohms for 1000w waiting to go in. I had it at 1500w at 1ohm in my '08 but that had the eld bypassed and a h/o alt.

music is dynamic so 1kW will be fine most of the time. it's those sustained bass notes when the car is at idle that will cause voltage drops. and an ELD bypass won't solve that.

I have no experience with high-drain audio systems, but bypassing the ELD seems like the nuclear solution to the problem.

A better option would likely be to install a supercapacitor bank to buffer the surges in power drain. If sized appropriately, it should supply peak demands and possibly extend battery life and very slightly reduce fuel consumption.

I would think something like this 350 farad capacitor bank would be sufficient. I have the kit, but purchased it to assist with starting my diesel truck.

That's really interesting, thanks. How would this be wired exactly for my situation? I have my amps under the front 2 seats that go to 4 gauge wire, then connect to a distribution block that goes to 1 gauge back to the battery under the hood.
