Default Need help fixing radio

I have a problem with a 93 Accord preset radio station button. One might read this and think it’s trivial, however the radio is currently unusable because the radio doesn’t recognize the ‘CODE’. After 19 years of ownership were starting to get age related failures.

So we have button that is worn out??? I hate to replace a radio because of one button. I'm going to take the radio out and see if I can remove the faceplate. Not sure what I'll find.

Does anyone have experience working on these radios?

Any input would be appreciated.

This is one of those frustrating problems. It is likely you will spend much time/effort to discover the problem can't be fixed, but I've done similar efforts myself.

An alternative is to buy a used replacement. These are available for <$50. See car-part.com and ebay. An aftermarket is probably a few bucks more, but more trouble to install (requires a harness adapter).

good luck

I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade to aftermarket. Even a used Alpine could be had for cheap.

Some buttons use a carbon contact that wears out over time with use. You can buy a kit to replace the carbon at MCM Electronics? It just paints on. You do need to open the face up to expose the board.

Modem head units use micro switches.
