Default Need new radio for 1997 Honda accord ex Wagon

It appears the original am/fm cassette stopped working. All fuses good ,cigarette lighter works power antenna extends and retracts. Mileage is 169,000. Today while driving turned on radio, no problem, put a cassette in,so i assume as soon as a cassettte is put in the slot the unit will take the cassette and lower it into position so it engages the drive sprocket, then the mode automatically changes from radio to tape. well the radio stopped playing and the tape did not start playing. And it would not eject. So i have decided to get a new radio. So im here looking for advice. Looking for something simple (my vehicle so far hasn't been a theft target, i want to keep it that way. As far as modern car stereo technology , im out of the loop. All i want is am/fm radio, maybe hook up smartphone, etc. I will be keeping the stock speakers and power antenna. Ive done a little research, been to the crutchfield site to see what fits my car. As far as i can see in order to complete the install i need 1] the radio unit 2] wiring harness. Regarding the wiring harness, is this plug n play ? Whereby the radio harness in the dash plugs into one end of the harness kit, then the other end of the harness kit plugs into the radio ? Or is it necessary to make individual splices, connections ? I prefer a foolproof way {if there is such a thing]. What do people recommend, Pioneer, alpine, etc. Thanks.
