Just purchased a new 2013 Accord EX-L Navi and am very unimpressed with the stereo system. Tried the very rudimentary built-in EQ but didn't make much difference.
Does anyone have some ideas about how to improve the sound? i.e. New amplifier, replacement subwoofer etc. What's the best bang for the buck?

there is an entire thread addressing this issue. you can take a look at it, but it is mostly just updates from honda and people saying honda isnt fixing the problem.

I have a lot of Ideas how to improve the sound, it depends on how big your buck is and how much bang you want though.

yep, and the first step to "fixing" the issue is deactivating the Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) mics. you can do this through the head unit but it resets. so try it out (refer to the sticky) and see if that helps you. it will certainly help it sound better.
