Problem with Audio
I have a 93 honda accord ex, it has everything stock as far as audio goes (bose system) recently it started to give me problems. the unit turns on but i just wouldnt hear no sound from it. i usually have to wait about 10-15 minutes (sometimes longer, when its really cold out) and the sound just starts playing out of no where. i pulled the head unit out n checked the wires and everything seemed to be fine. i though it was the head unit that actually crapped out on me so i went out and bought an aftermarket head unit thinking that would solve the problem. but its still happening!! its like i have to wait for it to warm up. it never use to do this before. what can i do to fix this??
thanks
thanks
how did you wire up the new aftermarket head unit to the factory speakers? Bose systems usually have a separate amplifier, meaning the head unit isn't powering the speakers directly. Those separate amplifiers can fail, and with Bose, they may be located on the speakers. You'll need to verify where the factory Bose amplifier is, and if it's turning on correctly. I've seen amplifiers behave weirdly in cold weather before, it's usually associated with failing/cold solder joints.
your new HU isn't a waste, you usually need to upgrade everything when dealing with a factory Bose system. You can sometimes bypass Bose amplification and power the speakers directly. I'd have to do some research as to the configuration of older Bose systems in Accords.

thanks for the quick response. i had no idea that they had separate amps. i found the main amp in the trunk. i'll check out the rest of the speakers today. as for how i wired the new HU, i just matched the colors on the harness to the hu's and crimped them. today it acted totally different, i started the car, waited a bit and this time only the front speakers came on after 2 minutes. the rear speakers never turned on, after about 5 minutes the sound started to fade in and out until it completely stopped playing.

i'd bypass any factory amps - power the speakers directly from the new head unit. If you're lucky, there is just the one amp in the trunk. You'll need to physically look at the speakers to know for sure (and to verify their wire color).
also, what did you connect the blue/white wire on the head unit to? The factory amplifier needs a turn-on signal. The blue wire is for power antenna and is only on when the radio is on (not CD). You want to know the wiring configuration of the Bose amp if you want to re-use it. You'll need to verify power, ground, and remote turn-on.

blue/white on the head unit is the remote turn-on. whatever color the factory amp uses can vary - just as long as it's a turn-on lead and not the power lead. You only get about 500mA out of a remote wire.
