Default Satellite Radio Not Working

Hello,

New member here.

I recently took possession of a 2004 Accord EX. It has had only two previous owners: my sister-in-law (original owner) and mother-in-law, the latter who no longer drives.

I'm still learning the car, which I like very much. One of the things I wanted to do was to transfer my Sirius/XM subscription from my previous car to this one. While my mother-in-law did not have a subscription, my sister-in-law did for many years in the car and verified that it worked during her ownership.

The satellite receiver is factory installed. It is part of the factory audio unit that has a 6-CD changer, but not a navigation system.

In pressing the CD/AUX SAT button, the unit will not switch from CD mode to XM.

I found the self-diagnostic steps for the eighth generation Accords but not the seventh. From those instructions, I was able to noodle into that mode by pressing the 1 and 6 buttons, and the AUDIO/PWR button. The first time I pressed that button, "CDC EJECT" appeared on the display. Pressing the AUDIO/PWR button a second time resulted in "DIAG" appearing on the display. I pressed each of the presets and only number 3 did anything (LCD lighting mode). Nothing happened with the rest.

In addition (perhaps related) I found in the glove compartment the female end of what looks like an old Apple iPod connector. The wire leading to it disappears into the central part of the dash behind the audio system. Not sure what this does, and the owner's manual has no information. Here's what it looks like.

Anyway, I'm looking to:
  • get the satellite receiver working
  • determine how to take advantage of the self-diagnostic tool for this generation of Accord
  • and find out what that cable is for.

And here's a photo of what the unit looks like.

Appreciate the help.

You might have to follow that iPod cable & dive into the dashboard. I'm pretty sure that iPod connector isn't stock. I had one for a 2003 Accord we used to own. There's a small component which plugs into the socket normally used for the changer or the XM receiver (depending on the car model & adapter model). Just a guess, but maybe the XM receiver was unplugged to install this iPod adapter?

I'm going to move this over to A/V Electronics, where those guys are more likely to know what's going on.

Default Solved

Got it working. Along with the above comment that this was an after-market addition, I learned from my brother-in-law that there was an addition to the audio system.

Using several videos on-line showing how to remove the shift-cover, ashtray, and the cubby, I was able to see it that this cable was part of an adapter kit. There was a wiring harness, one end which was plugged in to a box from the kit. The other end had two multi-pin connectors, one that was plugged in to the car’s audio unit, but the other wasn’t plugged in anywhere. I also found another multi-pin connector that was loose near the unit. As soon as I plugged those two together and tested, the XM radio became active. Seems this was overlooked when the kit was installed.

Appreciate the heads-up on what to look for. Hope what I found is helpful

Good deal. Since our 2003 was an Accord LX it didn't have a CD changer. I just plugged it into the empty socket. Also, our adapter must have been older or a different type, which didn't have the other cable where you would keep the XM radio along with the new adapter.

Glad you got it sorted out.
