Default 2010 Honda Accord Valve Adjustment

Here is what I was told about valve adjustment from Dealer. Is this true? Thanks for your input.
Spark plug and valve adjustment (4) $491....It's always recommended to adjust valves every 7 years or 100k miles. We wouldn't know if valves are too tight or loose by looking at them, we would have to actually preform the valve adjustment to get the before and after specifications. Let me know if you have any questions, I would be happy to answer them. Thank you.

Pretty much true, unless you want to get real technical with terminology.

If the valves are loose, they'll make ticking sound when the engine is running.
If they're too tight, they don't make noise, but can result in burned valves & a real expensive repair if you leave it go forever.

In order to MEASURE the valve clearances, they have to remove belts & valve cover & stuff, which is a large part of the job. Technically, ADJUSTING the valves is just loosening a locknut & turning a screw. But in reality the mechanic has already spent all the time just to get into that mechanism before he can even measure to decide if they need adjusting.

It would be kinda silly for a shop to charge 2 hours 52 minutes of labor (wild guess) for measuring the valves, then charging 8 minutes for adjusting them.

My Honda and Acura Owner's Manuals both say "Adjust the valves if they are noisy." My Accord is past the 200,000 mile mark and my TL is past the 140,000 mile mark and both engines are quiet. I don't see the benefit of messing with the valves unless there is reason to suspect they are out of adjustment.

Clearly they are pressuring you to do the work, however, your Owner's Manual says to do the work only when the valves are noisy. The decision is obviously yours, for my part, I'd take a pass.

Default Valve Adjustments

Shipo,
I do not see in my owners manual where it states do the work when valves are noisy. Just says inspect when changing spark plugs.

Are you sure? Read the fine print.

Sorry for the very delayed response. I had the dealership do the valves. They never recorded the before and after.
