Default Accord 1991 engine threw a rod. Is an upgrade possible?

Hi, I'm new to the forums, and am not exactly a "car enthusaist." However, my 1991 Accord automatic just threw a rod (270k miles! not a bad run) and I'm fairly broke atm and am looking into simply putting a used motor in. A co-worker who is into Hondas told me that the V-tec motor from the 1994-1997 Accord should bolt right in. I'm only concerned about whether this would require a transmission too, or at the very least, the engine and transmission computer from the newer car.

Any info is appreciated.

It would bolt in but would require the ecu. The hp increase is nothing huge, i would just stick with the stock engine

Would require the ECU, but the transmission computer and the transmission itself would work fine? I'm not so much worried about the HP gain as I am the fact that a 1994-1997 used motor would presumably have a lot less wear and mileage than a 1990-1993 motor would.

So I need the ECU if I go for the newer motor. Do I need the transmission computer also, or the transmission itself? I don't have much time to decide, I'm going to talk to the shop tomorrow. If I only need the ECU, I'll probably try to push for the newer motor. If I need both computers and/or the transmission, I will probably say to go stock.

The transmission from yours will work with it. It will make it easier to swap if you get a 94-95 because the 96-97 is obd2 which would cause some issues. Also not sure how the exhaust would line up

To be quite honest with you, with an automatic car, I would just stick with staying stock. You can get f22a jdm engines with almost no miles on 'em and swap it in in not time at all and at less cost than going the f22b1 route, considering that they didn't make f22b1's in Japan so you can't import one. They did however make the f22a's and you can probably get one from a local importer for little cost to you and it'll have less than 60k on it. Yes, you can get an f22b1 and swap it in but it sounds like you're pressed for time.
