Nissan is already implementing CVT to many of its vehicles.

not sure how those CVTs are going to be for the long term.........I would hope that they would last the life of the car.........

do you like the idea/concept/implementation of CVT? or is it too early to tell.

personally, i dont really care if they implement those different "KINDS" of automatic transmissions like CVTs, Slapstics, etc... just as long as they will still offer old fashion manual transmission on all vehicles..cuz its not like everybody really would want to drive an auto or a manual..it depends on the person..

CVT's have been around for a long time, just not in production vehicles ...... I was on a team in 1998 that built a mini-baja car with an 8HP motor and 2 CVT's in series that could do 30 off-road. Granted, they were a different type of CVT from what Nissan is using ..... also, it was really tough to set the preloads for the 2 to work together. The concept is very good because it offers smooth and very quick changes in gear ratios ..... when you punch it, the CVT just slides down to what would be a low gear ratio and when you let off, it slides up as much as it is comfortable with. Overall, it saves gas by keeping the rpms lower since it doesn't need to change rpms to increase speed like a traditional transmission.
