On rare occasions, my car, after starting it, will just shut off on me. After starting it, it shakes a little, then turns off, and my Battery Light and Oil Light (in red) come on and stay on. I already changed my battery, hoping that that was the issue, and it hasn't happened for a while. Only today, after installing my header, it finally happened. After a few tries, it always starts up again and is perfect for the next few days. The only thing I'm hoping that will do the trick is a tune-up. Anyone know what's wrong? Also, when I turn off my car, the engine block shakes a little, kinda the way it shakes when your car loses ignition without your intention of losing ignition. Does that have anything to do with this? Thanks.

 

Have you checked the main relay for cracked solder joints?

 

You lost me there, what do I need to check specifically and how?

 

For some reason I might think your car is starving for fuel.
Do the easy stuff first, make sure your fuel filter is not clogging up, whenwas it replaced last ?Also do a search on Fuel Pumps and relays.

Sounds like ignition coil.

 

Where is the fuel filter and what you mean by ignition coil?

 

The fuel filter is in the tank and shouldn't ever have to be changed since the pump/filter is all one unit. The ign coil is in the distributor.

 

Wow so I guess it can't be the fuel filter. About the distributor, it can be a problem. I was going to buy new plugs and wires and possibly a distributor cap, hoping that will solve the problem.
