Default Engine Oil 5w-20 Vs 10w 20

Hello Experts,
They say if you dont know ask the experts.. so here I am

I have an accord 03 with 40k Km on it. I do my oil changes at ~5K km and use GTX 5w-20. BTW i live in Canada...

I have been suggested to use 10w-20 instead of 5w-20 as recommended by Honda. The benfit, as told, is that it will help the engine last more at the cost of slight increase in fuel consuption.

This also suggests that I will get less miles from my engine if I continue using 5w-20.

What is your opinion?

Thanks
Daud

i did some reading about oil weights yesterday. Valvoline's website is pretty informative. Basically the two numbers represeant different temperature ranges for which the oil is designed for. Read up on it.

But honestly, I would stick with what Honda recommends.

There is no such oil as 10W20. Your choices are 5W20 or 0W20.

0W20 would have a slightadvantage startingin EXTREMELY cold temperatures. Other than thatyour car will never know the difference.

Check out this forum for any oil questions. These dudes are severely into oil!! They all send in their used oil to a lab to have it tested! Talk about hardcore.

LOL!

You sir are a hardcore oil fiend!

I posted on there back when I first bought my Accord because my dealership used Kendall synth/blend and I was a die hard Mobil 1 user and wasnt sure of the quality of Kendall. They assured me it was fine. Plus I learned that the Kendall was essentially the same thing as Motocraft synth blend and that was one of the best performing oils.

Great forum!
