"Cam sensor" is not real specific, and Honda never used that term exactly.

Honda has changed the timing-sensor configuration a couple times over the years. There's always 2 or 3 sensors which TOGETHER give the ECU enough information to do the spark & injector timing.

Older ones up to about 1995 have 3 sensors inside the distributor.
CYP = cylinder position
CKP = crank position
TDC = top-dead center

OBD-2 (1996-97) needed something different because US-EPA required it to be capable of sensing misfires.
CKP & TDC were moved to the crankshaft front pulley, and somehow incorporated enough pulses to get crankshaft speed fluctuation (to detect misfires).
Sensor that remained in the distributor had a different aperture-plate so it's pulses were different somehow.

6th-gen (98-02) changed it again, with CKP & TDC at the crankshaft, but the sensor in the distributor was different somehow. I don't know the details.

7th-gen i-VTEC engine has additional sensors at the 2 camshafts, because in addition to the VTEC rockers, that engine can also adjust camshaft timing.
