Default Help please

My speedometer has been working intermittently and my cruise control has been going on and off also. I was told by several mechanics that i needed to change the VSS its an LX w/o abs so there is only one-the main shaft speed sensor on the transmission? So i tried replacing that and that didn't fix the problem. Next i was told that it was a wiring problem. So i checked the continuity of the vss wires and i have no power going there or back. but if there was no power then why would the speedometer work intermittently? that wouldn't make sense if there is no power. I also noticed a clicking noise, my mechanic next door said it a was a relay (i trust his opinion as he was a mechanic for 35+ years) the only problem is I can't for the life of me find where the clicking sound is coming from and neither could he. The speedometer fluctuates in rhythm to the clicking. Every time it clicks the speedometer jumps-varying from 0 to 120 to 80 to 140 (THIS IS WHEN I'M NOT EVEN MOVING! ) It sounds like it was to the right of the oil filter and in/on the transmission box. If anyone can help me Please Do. I'm wondering what could be causing all of these problems and where the vss relay is or if there is even a relay? And if there is not a relay what could be causing the clicking noise sounding like its around the transmission?

Welcome, sounds like a speedo cable issue but I'm not familiar with your model.

Its the long cylndrical one. My lx is a japanese model (Vin # starts with a J) and doesn't have abs. I have not been able to find that other speed sensor on the right* anywhere on my car?

Sorry, don't get in this part too much. I think it is behind a small cover at the "end" of the trans. Is this a 4 or 6 cyl model.

Hope you didn't get any damage in the storms yesterday....I spent most of the afternoon cleaning up trees and limbs, nothing landed on the house but a mess for sure.
