well here is my question for anyone that can answer...
can you really tell the difference between a short ram and a cai in performance? or is it just a personal preference?

 

In the end youre looking at fractions of a percent of difference. You are still running a direct path pipe thats 1.5 to 2 inches larger then the stock airbox which isnt a direct path. So there your giong to get a gain from just changing that. In the end long term, both are going to pull in hot air, its just the short ram will pull it in cause its already under the hot engine bay for the filter. But thermal wrap to help reduce the engine heat effecting the pipe has been brought up many times. Just depends on how you want to do it. As for hydro lock on a CAI.... why are you driving in 2+ foot deep water to begin with?

 

Some people just don't know when to stop driving. During one hurricane we had down here in florida about a year and a half ago, my friend drove his brand new mustang (stock intake at the time) through oh, maybe 2 feet or so of water and hydrolocked the motor. Then, to add to the stupidity, he attempted to start the motor and keep on driving, in which he bent all sorts of fun engine things, like rods and valves. He didn't get anywhere and he had to shell out $3000 or whatever for a new motor. He learned that day that you really can't compress water!

The morale of the story is stay away from deep *** puddles. It's not worth it. Cold air intake or not. And if you're unfortunate enough to lock the motor with water, don't try to start it. Pull the plugs out and then start it to shoot the water out. Just thought i'd share this while the topic was brought up.
