Default Need to replace engine in 97 Accord LX

I just bought a car and the motor blew unexpectedly. Now I am going to replace it. My father said since I am replacing it I might as well do an upgrade. I would like to know what are some Hondas with either Vtechs or I-Vtechs that I can put in my car. This is my first post and I hope it is in the right spot. Thanks guys

You may get differing opinions, but IMO stick w/ an exact replacement engine to avoid suprises on ECM and sensor input matching.

For instance, since you don't have VTEC, you will need to change ECM and also perhaps add wires to wiring harness to enable comms w/ ECM from VTEC inputs to ECM.

good luck

A lot depends on your budget. H22s go in fairly easily and for a somewhat reasonable price, K24s go in with a little more work and a lot more money, J32s go in with a lot of work and a metric ton of money.

Perhaps it's laziness or insecurity on my part, but I agree with Texas. Although I'm normally a gambler at heart, with the computerized and differing wiring harnesses, there is such a risk for one minor change to cause disastrous results, I would swap it out for the identical engine. Then you're safe. It doesn't sound like you were unhappy with your car with the original so it might not be worth the risk. My two cents.

I think I am just going to use the same type of motor for the ease and cost.

f and h swaps are very common in these cars and there is an overwhelming amount of support. these are the more easier cars to swap and upgrade. i swapped a f20b and t2t4 trans into my 97 accord. i wish i would have swapped in an h23 dohc vtec.
