Default question on engine

i was on my way home from work the other night at about 12:15 and i was just messing around in my Sedan LX w/ the F23 VTEC 5-spd. I went to put into fourth gear at around 5400RPM and i don't know what happened but the car jolted forward and the tach literally jumped passed redline, pretty far past the redline, close to 8000RPM. I almost pooped my pants, i though maybe i spun a rod bearing or blew my trans because of what happened, but i pulled over, popped the hood and took a listen, quiet as a freakin mouse (has a very, very small bit of valve noise but it's been like that since i bought it). And i was wondering if this is ok? everything sounded okay but is there going to be any long term effects? any help would be really greatly appreciated. Thanks

were you shifting up to 4th or down to 4th? You sure you didnt shift into 2nd if you were intending to shift up into 4th?

Default RE: question on engine

i beleive i might have gone into second. Im not asking how i did this, i am asking if my engine is going to be ok, all my gauges are normal, no oil pressure light, no noise at all coming from engine. I just want to know if there are any long term effects on my engine. Once again, all my gauges are normal, no oil pressure light, no noise at all coming from engine.

I can only say that I have driven 5 speeds all my life, (42 years). As long as this is not a habit you should be fine. I have did it myself the odd occassion. Most engines can take a little beating just don't make a habit out of this. From the sound of your post you don't.
